De kunstenares van Iraanse afkomst Shirin Neshat verkent de paradox van de kunstenaar in ballingschap: ze is de stem van haar volk, maar kan niet naar huis gaan. In haar werk verkent ze het Iran van voor en na de islamitische revolutie, en trekt ze de politieke en maatschappelijke veranderingen na aan de hand van krachtige vrouwenportretten.

Shirin Neshat has lived much of her life outside her native Iran. Her photographs and films offer a glimpse of the cultural, religious and political realities that shape the identities of Muslim women worldwide.
