In de geschiedenis van de islam waren er steeds twee versies van jihad, zegt journalist Bobby Ghosh. Een interne, de persoonlijke worsteling om een beter mens te zijn en een externe. Een kleine minderheid (meest recentelijk Osama bin Laden) heeft zich de tweede toegeëigend en gebruikt die als excuus voor een dodelijke mondiale strijd tegen 'het Westen'. Ghosh suggereert dat het nu, na de wereldwijde fragmentatie van bin Ladens organisatie, tijd wordt om het woord terug te claimen. (Opgenomen tijdens TEDxGeorgetown.)
