Le paléontologiste renommé Jack Horner a passé sa carrière à essayer de reconstruire un dinosaure. Il a trouvé des fossiles comprenant des vaisseaux sanguins et des tissus mous extraordinairement bien conservés, mais jamais de l'ADN. Dès lors, dans une toute nouvelle approche, il prend les descendants encore en vie des dinosaures (les poulets) et les modifie génétiquement pour réactiver des caractéristiques ancestrales — comprenant dents, queues et même des mains — pour au final créer un "Pouletosaurus".
