My TED Story

My TED journey started at TEDGlobal 2007 in Arusha - Tanzania as a Fellow. Since then, I have been a strong advocate in promoting TED in Africa. I have atendend TED 2008, TEDWomen 2010, TEDActive 2011, TEDxSummit 2012 and TEDGlobal2012

I host TEDxSoweto, and am the TEDx Ambassador in Africa.

  A comment on Conversation: As a TEDx organizers I wish there were this feature on ted.com/tedx. Please propose a suggestion or an idea around future functionality.

  Jul 11 2012: The new TEDx events page already works much better. I would like to see way that TEDx attendees can automatically to create a profile on TED.com and have the TEDx organizers access those profiles.

• A comment on Conversation: TEDAfrica is possible and practical

  Jan 24 2012: Interesting discussion. The introduction of TEDx www.Ted.com/TEDx in 2009 as a global strategy for local events has for me created a different model for looking at the future. To date there has been more than 60 TEDx events across the African continent and those numbers are growing. Since Arusha there is a new TEDx community that has introduced the TED brand to the continent.
  
  In the short term, I would like to see the TEDx community in Africa grow and also to see more interesting TEDx events on the continent.
  A contribution that the TEDGlobal 2007 Africa Fellows can make is to maybe host or support TEDx events in Africa.

• A comment on Conversation: The world lost one of its greatest visionaries tonight. A man who made a real difference. What would you say to Steve Jobs, if you could?

• A reply on Conversation: Should we ask kids to help us solving the real world problems? And if yes, how?

  May 8 2011: Yes. start by listening more to children's conversations (amongst themselves). They know more than we give them credit for.
  Just present them with what the real challenges we are facing as adults and let them be. Do not try to teach them first "how to come up with solutions". Given the time and space, they might just suprise you.

  A reply on Conversation: How will you take part in JR's TED Prize wish?

  Mar 14 2011: Interesting idea. I live in Johannesburg and happened to be in Venice Beach after the TEDActive conference. I must confess, I was shocked to see the number of homeless people at the beach front. I think its a good idea for local communities to start engaging with what is in front of them.

  A comment on Conversation: Who is the most interesting TED Fellow you have seen on TED.com or met in person?

  Feb 13 2011: William Kamkwamba. I met William in Arusha Tanzania in 2007. What he has been able to do between then and now is incredible. He is a true inspiration to a lot of young people in Africa.
  Juliana Rotich. I like what Juliana and her team have been able to do with Ushahidi.
