About Me

I am a consultant thinker, merchant & creative strategist with a 25 year track record as an entrepreneur and brand builder. Over the years I have done a great deal of thinking about experiences, brands and people; and what it takes to engage, delight and create desire. I believe, like Robert Louis Stevenson, that "to travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive"; that doing good work is its own reward; and that making other people happy is the surest path to happiness. I live in Bondi very near the beach with my wife Melanie, two teenage children (Lola & Roman), and a small black dog named Pearl. I swim every day at the Bondi Icebergs pool ... a very special place.

More About Me

I'm passionate about

My family, my brands, my REMOgrams, functionality, Bondi Beach, TriBeCa, Lonelyville FI, fresh seafood, open fires, cooking outside, oceans, islands, films ... but, most of all, passion itself.

An idea worth spreading

Do good work and you will be happy and make others happy.

My TED Story

REMO has been supplying Quality T Shirts and other merchandise to TED Conferences (off and on) since Richard Saul Wurman invited me (and a spare 1,000 award winning REMO Catalogues) along to TED4 in Kobe in 1993. Thrilled to be continuing in the role as off and on Merchant to TED and Licensee for TEDxSydney ... and looking forward to some fun projects ahead.

A comment on Conversation: Should anyone be able to upload their TEDTalk to TED.com?

Feb 17 2011: Great discussion. Like anything truly unique and interesting, the best solution is never black or white, but rather an elusive shade of grey. Some reckon that the crowd demonstrates wisdom per se, and that the described system would automatically yield optimum results. That wisdom is a statistical wisdom which gives equal weight to all participants, regardless of their individual levels of subjective wisdom. Does the crowd always make the "right" decision … even a smarty pants crowd like the TED Membership? In my experience as a community and brand builder, this is not always the case. The best democracies are strongly led. The ship can be driven by the network, but people at the centre possessed of individual wisdom, exercising balance and judgement, need to take over the steering from time to time. The integration of this "old school" wisdom into any new system would be a requirement in my view.
