While pursuing my passions…..the following happened.
Founded Baker Design Group, Inc. in 1997 - President
Founded TEDx New England in 2011 - Co-Founder and Curator
Raised near Seattle, Washington and attended college at WSU. Designed and built houses to put myself through school, but longed to move the East Coast to see how they approached the profession. In 1984, at the encouragement of a group of generous mentors, I moved from Seattle to Boston to advance my design experience.
Prior to Baker Design Group, Inc.
-Project architect with Moshe Safdie & Associates for several projects including the Skirball Museum in Los Angeles.
-Led design team in collaboration with Renzo Piano's office to build an Aquarium and Exhibit Museum in Genoa, Italy for the Columbus Exposition (500th Anniversary of the Discovery of America)
-Designed “classrooms of the future” at Harvard Business School. These new design standards were soon adopted by universities and corporate training centers worldwide.
-Led design team to Master Plan 150-acre Waterfront in Bremerhaven, Germany
1997 to Present:
-Started Baker Design Group, Inc., in 1997 to integrate architecture, interior design, and industrial design; creating leading edge projects and buildings worldwide. Presently working on a number of exciting projects in Paris, London, Tokyo, Jakarta, Mumbai, Jeddah, Singapore, Boston, and across the United States.
-As a member of TED, I was excited to hear of the possibility to organize a local TEDx event. In 2011, I Co-Founded TEDx New England along with Mr. Vinay Mehra who is also a TED member. We hosted our inaugural event on 01 November 2011 at WGBH Studio, Boston, MA. We were so pleased with the exchange of ideas and the connections created from our event, that we are excited to host our 2nd event this fall, 2012.
Helping people achieve results beyond their expectations.
Trying everyday to conduct some random act of kindness.
Any idea that brings diverse and talented individuals together to solve problems.
I've attended TED since 2005, and each year I have always left the conference with an unexpected life lesson or inspiring personal experience.
