About Me

Emily Verellen, based in Los Angeles, is an internationally recognized non-profit leader and communicator, with a specialty in gender, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, development, population and creative media for social change. Emily has proven communications and program implementation experience through conceptualizing, founding and directing a women’s rights and sexual health program in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya. She also has significant experience on both sides of non-profit fiscal management – fundraising and philanthropy. She is passionate about working with young women to encourage and inspire social entrepreneurship, and turning their personal passions into careers of service and leadership. She is the Director of Programs and Communications at The Fledgling Fund where she works directly with documentary filmmakers to create strategy around using film for social change.

Since first attending TEDActive a few years ago, I have been a believer. I look forward to TED events all year long as a way to learn new things that I previously thought had no relevance to my life and work.
