About Me
Scientist, entrepreneur, author, venture investor. Co-founder of Excel Venture Management which invests in transformational life science companies. Former CEO of RxGen and CSO of US Genomics. Former professor at Harvard Medical School, where I surprised everyone when I abruptly departed after 18 years to pursue a career as an entrepreneur. This career change was considered risky and was motivated in large part by frustration that many meaningful laboratory breakthroughs donot finding their way to the outside world.
Co-authored Homo evolutis with Juan Enriquez, which describes the future of human evolution and the impact of new life technologies on this process.
Co-founded biotech companies, published >100 scientific research papers, and trained >100 talented young scientists who have gone on to successful careers in academia, industry, and government.
