A comment on Talk: Jack Choi: On the virtual dissection table

Apr 5 2012: Awesome! Here are some additional applications that come to mind:

-Simulations of lifestyle decisions' impacts on the body. E.g. click the "smoke cigarettes once a day" button and see what would likely happen to the entire body. "Run 30mins a day," etc. This might help people internalize their decisions better.
-Crowd-sourcing autopsies. This would be crazy.
-Surgery practice. Think of it as a big game of Operation! Perhaps like pilots and advanced flight simulators, surgeons could one day become certified just through this form of democratized practice.

What crazy ideas came to mind for you?

A comment on Talk: The secret life of plankton

Apr 2 2012: That was visually stunning! Brilliant work!
  • A comment on Talk: Lisa Harouni: A primer on 3D printing

Jan 23 2012: This technology is so incredible! I get so excited every time I hear about it. However, in the wake of SOPA and PIPA, are we going to see some intense conversations about what the individual has the right to print in 3D? Will my kids be able to take an image of a new, designer product from the web and hold it in their hands moments later? Such fascinating questions...I get chills just thinking about them!

A comment on Talk: Yves Rossy: Fly with the Jetman

Nov 15 2011: Typical TED: of course we can fly! Cheers to Yves to fearlessly pursuing a dream that we all share.

A comment on Talk: Marco Tempest: Augmented reality, techno-magic

Nov 4 2011: Arthur C. Clarke once said that "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

As a magician, I have a profound respect for Marco: he captures and manipulates the essence of Clarke's idea better than anyone else in the world. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him push our art to a new level, and I'm glad that TED has given him some highly-deserved stage time.

A comment on Talk: Eli Pariser: Beware online "filter bubbles"

May 2 2011: Wow, what a shocking talk. Very insightful.

...But what about Twitter? The crowd is the gatekeeper on Twitter, not personalized algorithms. Seeing what the world is talking about via trending topics is going to weed out the "dead squirrels on the lawns." Yes, the masses can talk about stupid things, but at least we can consciously maneuver around that informational landscape.

By choosing the diverse sources we want to hear from, alongside the possibility of holding our ears up against the world, isn't this the future you want to see, Eli?

A comment on Talk: Mike Matas: A next-generation digital book

Apr 28 2011: What if we let the crowd add videos/graphics to books in a Wiki-like format? That would be pretty awesome!
  • A comment on Conversation: Full Spectrum auditions: Open thread

Apr 21 2011: Perhaps I missed this, but are we expected to fly out to NYC for the auditions on our own dollar?
  • A reply on Talk: Dave Meslin: The antidote to apathy

    Apr 12 2011: Sulav,

I've contacted speakers several times using the links provided on their bio pages. However, the fact that you need to search for it in the first place reemphasizes Meslin's argument...if you want to engage people, make it extremely easy to do so!
  • A reply on Talk: Dave Meslin: The antidote to apathy

Apr 12 2011: Zeeva, you have many more reasons to be optimistic. We have the greatest education system in history, medicine to make us live longer than ever before, the entire wealth of human knowledge available for free, and the ability to communicate with virtually anyone around the world for almost no cost. However, this does not mean that the world is perfect. Framing the argument as us vs. the government doesn't seem to be very productive.
