Hi my name is Laura my profession is helping people. That has translated into me working with incredible people to give them the opportunity to experience life changing moments. During the day I manage the advancement department of International House at the University of Queensland our mission is to spread the message of philanthropy within Australia to ensure that we are cultivating strong leaders of tomorrow from different backgrounds. In my spare time I am working at delivering the first TEDxWomen themed event to Queensland in the form of TEDxSouthBankWomen. The purpose of the event is to empower women (and a few men) to change their lives their futures and ultimately their world.
- Women and Leadership, Indigenous Opportunity, Youth as change makers, What you think about and thank about your bring about,
That women have the capacity at any age and from any background to contribute to making this world a better place.
The endless possibilities that life can deliver you
I am fluent in Japanese
I was first introduced to TED in 2007 by my family naturopath. Since then my love for TED and its ability to educate, inspire and empower people from all walks of life has grown exponentially. On my bucket list I have had that I would love to organise a TEDx event since 2010. When TED delivered TEDxWomen - I knew that I had found the right themed event to enlighten and inspire the women and men of my community behind. It has been the most incredible journey organising TEDxSouthBankWomen. "Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it is the only thing that ever has." In our case, we aren't so much working to change the world we are working at empowering people to change their worlds.
