I have always enjoyed teaching and helping children grow up, and have been lucky to have the opportunity to work in wonderful schools in various parts of the country. I began my teaching career as a Middle and High School history teacher and coach. At the Kent Denver School, I taught courses ranging from Colorado history to social philosophy, psychology and economics. During these years I also ran the summer school, coached varsity boys tennis and varsity girls soccer. Eventually, I became the assistant head of the middle school. After earning a masters degree at Harvard in educational administration, we moved to Greenwich Connecticut where I was the head of the Greenwich Country Day Middle School for thirteen years. At GCDS I also served as Director of Professional Development and Dean of Studies preK – ninth Grade. While these were wonderful experiences, we truly wanted to return to Colorado and to Colorado Academy, the school at which my wife first taught. We feel very fortunate to be here and to have the chance to have our children be a part of the school community. While most of my free time is happily spent with my wife, Elissa, Chase, our son, and Story, our daughter, I also enjoy soccer, tennis, yoga and fly fishing. Reading remains a passion, and I am always on the look out for the next nonfiction page turner (don’t be shy about sending me ideas!). Working with a passionate TEDxDenverTeachers Advisory Board to create a TEDx focused on sharing innovative pedogogy to develop 21st Century capacities continues to be a great learning expreience. I hope you join us on March 14 for our livecast of the event!
Education, Learning, Growth and developing new ways to teach students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
If young children are only taught to read, write and remember, we are shortchanging them. Young children must be taught to problem solve and must be giving lots and lots of practice. Children will amaze us with how they take on real world challenges and develop 21st Century Capacities if we create the right learning environment, give them the tools and lots and lots of practice.

Wood working. For good or bad, I have made a good percentage of the tables, dressers and mirrors in our house.
