About Me

I'm a little Seth Godin +Tim Ferris meets Deepak with a splash of Jon Stewart-but a girl.
My studies includes a Bachelor of Communication Studies/Visual Arts & a Bachelor of Education. My 18 year fitness career evolved as a group fitness instructor/trainer, manager, competitor and eventually health club owner. As a passionate teacher I let my path further evolve into corporate education. I am a devoted wife and the mother of two lovely children. In 2006, at the age of 38, I was diagnosed with stage II Breast Cancer. As with all of my life experiences, I have embraced this one to look for the opportunities for growth and education.

I have been published in various magazines and have appeared on many regional programs. I regularly contribute the LIVEwithTHRIVE! Online magazine. My latest book, The Pink Notes is a raw and honest account of my journey to find beauty, hope, and healing while peeling back the many layers of cancer. My R-N-R Mind/Body Wellness Program is an interactive website which provides the body of my work in a time efficient practical manner. I’m about helping you find the balance between healthy living and ‘real life’. Balance is not a destination but a way of being.

More About Me

I'm passionate about

How we learn and perceive the world.

An idea worth spreading

Ask what not why. When you ask why, you are looking for something to blame. When you ask what, you are looking for growth and opportunity.

Talk to me about

How you overcame one of your worst fears and how has that enhanced your life experience.
How you found a vehicle to express your passion and purpose.

People don't know that I'm good at

I am the only avid gardener that could spend all day in my garden as long as I have my gloves on and don't have to touch any bugs.

My TED Story

I have always been intrigued with the way human beings communicate and react to information. This fascination started at a young age. Now as a grown up, I have more depth and intention to my work and there is a specific reaction I am after. Now my medium is information. I love to use technology to create multi-media pieces to create a reaction in those who are paying attention. TED to me embodies embodies everything I am about. From the moment I entered the site, I felt at home.

  • A comment on Talk: Liza Donnelly: Drawing on humor for change

Jan 31 2011: She is addressing a problem that is still a fabric of our female society. We raise each other to compete and disable each others vibrant energy. It's time to realize we can be our own channel and navigate these old perceptions.
  • A comment on Talk: Hanna Rosin: New data on the rise of women

Jan 31 2011: It seems that people are still very sensitive to gender roles. I think her observations are clear and the reality. It doesn't have to perpetuated and interpreted as a bad thing. We are moving into a conceptual age where things are less about gender and more about universally HUMAN things.
  • A comment on Talk: Emily Pilloton: Teaching design for change

Nov 8 2010: I love that this involves rural communities. We have somehow forgotten that nurturing our farming community nurtures our future and quality of food we consume. Bravo.

A comment on Talk: Tan Le: A headset that reads your brainwaves

Jul 27 2010: I can see many applications to this type of technology. I think this would accelerate innovation and the creative process by allowing the user to convert thought into digital data which could be manipulated instantly. I love this!
    Peace.
  • A comment on Talk: Sir Ken Robinson: Bring on the learning revolution!

May 25 2010: Well put Tal. It is the elephant in the room that thankfully can not be avoided any longer. Seth Godin's latest book Linchpin addresses this issue as well. I am thrilled and relieved that it will finally be addressed. I feel privileged to witness this moment in history.
  • A comment on Talk: Malcolm Gladwell on spaghetti sauce

Jan 21 2010: Malcolm has a wonderful way of commentating on the larger issues in our society through wonderful and quirky elements of our social and pop culture. I found his book Outliers provided a new direction of insight into how people succeed.

A comment on Talk: Jill Bolte Taylor's stroke of insight

Jan 21 2010: She shares her experience so vividly. I think many people have experiences like this when facing life threatening situations but do not have the vocabulary or medical understanding to express themselves. I had many surreal experiences in my own healing with cancer. Watching this piece validated my experiences as well as my belief that there is still so much for us to learn about the human experience.
  • A comment on Talk: David Blaine: How I held my breath for 17 min

Jan 21 2010: I love when unique, visionaries defy what we are conditioned to believe. He just proves how much potential we actually have. Brilliant.
