  • A comment on Talk: Shawn Achor: The happy secret to better work

Feb 2 2012: This is probably the first generation of any religion. Good intentions. I like to see a little of Larry David after I'm subjected to things like these, to get a sense of reality.

I do not think it's a good idea to distort reality, for better or worse.

A comment on Talk: Alain de Botton: Atheism 2.0

Jan 17 2012: This is sort of like asking a mom n pop store to adopt aspects of wal-mart. You know, the sort of solutions that create problems.
  • A comment on Talk: Cynthia Kenyon: Experiments that hint of longer lives

Nov 18 2011: Doesn't that example suggest we should have "hurricanes" more often?

If we create an "emergency" on our own accord, say once every month, would that help activate FOXO? This should be easily and ethically testable in humans.

A comment on Talk: Stefan Sagmeister: 7 rules for making more happiness

Jun 3 2011: No offense but this talk is going a long way just patronizing happiness.

Firstly, all the data about happiness (like the man vs woman) is based on simply asking someone to rate their own happiness. It's not hard to imagine why this can be borderline absurd.

Secondly, so what if some unconscious decision is pushing Paul to marry Paula? Didn't he just rate his happiness higher in the first test? There is a dichotomy of sorts here.

There have been numerous studies showing that happiness is just relative. Where do you get the $50k number from? It's because that already puts you ahead on the relativistic scale. Trying to earn more than that just takes more effort than the results, again relatively.

The secret of being miserable is to have the leisure to bother about whether you are happy or not. The cure is occupation. - George Bernard Shaw
  • A comment on Talk: Terry Moore: How to tie your shoes

May 25 2011: That was excellent!!

What amazes me is for how long we can go blaming the laces until we open our minds a little !

The talk should be called 'From open laces to open minds'.
