About me

Contrary to what Jesse Jackson said—I am nobody. Now I don’t mean that in any sort of self-deprecating way. I simply mean that I represent no school of thought, no religion, no creed, no nothing. I am just a youngish American who loves talking about the Big Stuff. I do n ... More »

Nov 4 2009: Yes, our intelligence has evolved at a rapid pace over the last few hundred years, but Instead of taking an elitist stance as a result, we must realize that we are still ignorant of many things. Now is not the time to get complacent, but it is hard not to when every generation seems to think they've got things all figured out.

Also, even if we cannot "see" progress we are still progressing. Yasser mentioned that things remained "relatively" unchanged for many thousands of years. The key word there is the one in quotes. 1000 years is no different than one minute relatively speaking. If one minute I'm happy and the next I'm sad, how do I know that I'm sad, because just a minute ago I was happy. I hope that's not too abstract. I just think we are painfully tied to how we perceive time and as a result we forget that evolution is like an eternal roller coaster ride--a ride we've only become aware of a relative "minute" ago.

Oh, thanks for the excellent commentary guys.

Nov 4 2009: I love this stuff. I'm so happy I stumbled upon this site today. Excellent video with excellent commentary. I actually just wrapped up a couple articles about perception and our peculiar nature a few days ago.
