  • I'm passionate about

I believe deeply in the power of time off, and I'm working hard to make sabbaticals a part of the way we work.

  • An idea worth spreading

Sabbaticals are one way we need to change the way we work. Companies that offer sabbaticals for their employees should be recognized for their holistic and nurturing approach to managing talent. Here are 100+ companies that offer sabbaticals: http://tiny.cc/TSbjX.

Nov 6 2009: Fatema, the more holistic approach to work that you describe is indeed being offered by many companies. We've been researching companies that offer sabbaticals for several years now, and these are companies that truly honor "work" and "life". One of the ways we can all move this forward is to begin to seek out companies that offer sabbaticals in our job searches. If these companies are more successful at competing for talent, have higher retention rates of employees, and are more productive and successful .... then other companies will follow suit. We have to create the demand for "human friendly". Thanks.

Oct 25 2009: One of the options that I feel is so often overlooked - by those who feel sabbaticals are important - is to work for a company that offers sabbaticals for its employees. Here are 100 companies that offer them, many of them fully paid: http://tiny.cc/TSbjX. Sagmeister is an incredible example, and I'm so grateful for how he's promoting the cause of a whole new way of working. Remember, sabbaticals are NOT just for people in academia or creative industries.
