A reply on Talk: Steven Pinker: The surprising decline in violence

Jan 25 2010: The incidents you cited still do not change the figures by orders of magnitude, which would be required for your argument to hold. These events were despicable but they do not ultimately repudiate Pinker's claims.

A reply on Talk: Steven Pinker: The surprising decline in violence

Jan 25 2010: But isn't this what Pinker points out? That a better understanding of the data should lead us to be less fearful and more capable of placing the news we see on TV into a greater context?

A reply on Talk: Steven Pinker: The surprising decline in violence

Jun 25 2009: Morteza, Mr. Pinker pointed to many evidences that violence has decreased as state governments have become stronger. He also points to archaeological evidence that demonstrates that death rates were far higher in more anarchical states. Unless you value death over life (a truly self-defeating proposition), your views are not favored by the evidence. Let's see some evidence to support the proposition that conditions are more favorable to life and freedom under anarchy.
