A reply on Talk: Thom Mayne on architecture as connection
A reply on Talk: Frank Gehry asks "Then what?"
Your second argument deals with form following function.
We understand our world by creating basic concepts for everything. But who's to say that a chair can't have 3 legs instead of four? (apply that analogy to this) Who says that a library should look a certain way? As long as it's serving its function, to house books, it does not matter how closely the architecture follows that function, except in terms of expenses. Gehry's work breaks down architecture and challenges our understandings of what anything really is and shows us that it can readily be anything else we never thought of before.
