A comment on Talk: Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action

Jul 28 2010: One of the things that bother me most is a speaker who distorts truth in order to make it fit his presentation. I believe that without truth there is nothing worth having, even inspiration.

Mr. Sinek stressed two points: 1) no one has heard of Samuel Pierpont Langley and 2) he quit after the success of the Wright brothers; both of which are, let’s be frank, lies.

    1) Langley has quite a number of honors: NASA’s Langley Research Center, the Smithsonian Institute Langley Medal in Aviation and Space Exploration and the Langley Air Force Base are named after him, among many other honors.

    2) He didn’t quit; never did quit. He kept on working on aeronautics and actually had legal trouble with the Wright brothers over certain patents they held on airplanes. He contributed quite a bit towards modern aviation thus all the honors.

Now, where’s the Wright Research Center? There is none. They weren’t very inspirational and contributed little after the first flight.
