Oct 22 2011: Here is my list, a bit eclectic but it's what came to my mind:
1) We always forget that we make mistakes
2) I can learn something even from people I don't like at all
3) Hard work is the best "business card"
4) Astronomy was my portal to science
5) Science is the only way for the human beings to survive
6) We are so tiny in the Universe that our problems shouldn't bother us that much
7) Humans are not the "pinnacle" of evolution
8) Everything around us evolved from helium and hydrogen atoms
9) Learning and understanding give pleasure to our brains
10) We all are made from star dust
Sep 30 2011: I knew about TED because someone I admire won the TEDPrize in 2009, when I watched Jill Tarter's talk about her TED wish I knew I wanted to bring that insight to my fellow Spanish speakers out there. Then I learned about the TEDtalk translation project.
At first the talk I was aiming for was already taken to translate, so I choose another TEDTalk and as long as I was watching and translating all these talks I found myself being wondering and inspired for every talk I translated and they were about completely different topics. I truly understands the motto of TED "Ideas worth spreading".
Finally, after a couple of months the translator of Jill's talk couldn't finish it and that talk was suddenly available again for translation-- And I got it!! It was great to being able to translate Jill Tarter's awesome ideas so people who don't know English could understand and be inspired too by that message.
Since then I have watched the TEDtalks live and, the last wonderful experience I had occurred when I watched Salman Khan talk about Khan Academy, I am a teacher and I was doing in my way, very similar things as Salman did, recording videos and posting them in youtube so my students could watch them and understand them at their own pace. I liked the concept of Khan Academy so much that I wrote to them and asked them how could I be part of the project?. They answered me rapidly and now I am the Spanish translator of the Physics videos on Khan Academy.
And last but not least, I have been fortunate enough to find good friends among the translator team, truly valuable people who have the joy of sharing by translating all that TEDTalks has to offer.
My life has been improved and my spirit has been nurtured by all that I have seen in TEDtalks and TEDTalks translation project, and I am happy to help bring all those wonderful ideas to Spanish speaking people.
Aug 8 2011: I cannot believe how lucky I am to grown up with the family I have, with a father that was proud of raising strong and independent girls. I wish I could help every girl to feel empowered and stop all the horrible violence against woman and children around the world.
Aug 3 2011: This is not only and idea worth spreading, it's also an idea worth trying! I am going to do "listening" exercises with my students at class!!!
Apr 16 2011: Indeed there have been always excellent teachers but, sadly not every student had had these excellent teachers. The approach of this concept is to have many excellent teachers available (24/7) to all the people who has Internet access. I think this is the key point.
Apr 15 2011: I am glad you feel inspired to be actively involved with this project. I am a Khan Academy Spanish translator now, I have done almost 30 video translations for the Physics playlist on Khan Academy and it has been a great learning and popularizing experience for me.
Hope you are getting on with the Croatian captions!
