  • A reply on Conversation: What features do u seek in the search engine of the future?

Apr 15 2012: To elaborate, I do think search engines should understand the user better. I didn't say they shouldn't. Which is why I said I'm not concerned about the privacy. The search engines can exploit our information to understand the user better and predict how we would like our results from our searches.

A comment on Conversation: Marriage and divorce!!! Both mean the same thing!!???

Apr 15 2012: I think the real issue here is why do we even have the title "marriage"?
Does being married make a couple more or less loving towards one another? committed to each other? It might be the case in some. But I think that is the wrong way to go about it.

"I am married to you therefore I should love you more."
"I am married to you therefore I have more commitment to you."
These statements don't make much sense.

We really need to take a step back from titles. A title is basically defined by well... its definition.

If we're putting definitions on things, we're also putting obligations in things.
If we're putting obligations in things, we're putting expectations in things.
And from what I've learned, it's always best to have low expectations.

***not the most eloquent answer or finished answer but im just writing as im thinking haha
  • A comment on Conversation: It is being said that we are starting to increase expectations from technology and less from people. Are we sure?

Apr 15 2012: I listened to the video today. In short what I got out of it is that people are confusing convenience for necessity.

I think that our expectations for people have increased in the sense that we have higher expectations for them to use their technology. It's like saying "How do you not have an iPhone?" "How do you not have a Facebook?" "You still fax papers?"

However, I don't think people have lost their patience or have higher expectations otherwise though. That's all very personal and varied across relationships.
  • A comment on Conversation: What features do u seek in the search engine of the future?

Apr 15 2012: I think that search engine design is incredibly similar across the board. Take a look at google and yahoo. Everything is vertical up and down. I think that there is an extremely large movement to shift away from that. Now look at facebook, pinterest, tumblr, etc. These designs are vertically columned. I would like to see how this could adapt into search engines.

Smart do I want it to be? I think we need to focus on the user. Many people don't know how to search efficiently. Based off of experience, they use the wrong choice of words. Or they use too few. Or they use too little. Search engines are smart enough. I think that people just need to use them more efficiently.

How am I concerned about the privacy? Not really concerned. If I'm using a search engine, I don't expect them to make a case study on what I search up. The data collected should provide information about its users and using this information, I think you should cater to and predict user's actions.

  • A comment on Conversation: Let the Chips fall where they may

Apr 15 2012: "Why are we focused more on preventing a disaster, rather dealing with the after affects of a disaster. For instance, the destruction of our planet is for sure, why are we not enthusiastic about finding another earthly planet and creating earthly atmosphere for life to evolve."

Not really following the logic on this one. Isn't finding another earthly planet a way of *prevention* of disaster?
I think that we are just as focused on dealing with the after effects of something. Take medicine for example. Do we have more vaccines or do we have more medication? Prevention and treatment.

I do agree with your point on how every individual in a society plays a key role in keeping the cycle of life rolling. We all strive for power but if everyone was powerful, the world would be dysfunctional. I don't know where you are getting at in your question though: why do we not wish to live happily the way we are instead of pursuing fantasies? What I want to ask you is why can't you allow people to dream? In order to make something a reality, you must dream first. And it is those that don't dream that are the sweepers you talk about.
  • A comment on Conversation: How do you do that? I'm curious to know how you get motivated to reach your goals and get results.

Apr 15 2012: failures --> realizing that you're doing something wrong --> do the right thing. = motivation?

personal forward movement --> attitude, awareness, authenticity --> do the right thing. = motivation?
awareness= thinking about what is right and what is not?
authenticity = being true to oneself? in other words, being right to oneself?
    attitude= reflection of awareness?

having human love --> doing the right thing in her mind? = motivation?

rewards and consequences --> do the right thing to get the reward. = motivation?

So really, I think you have to understand ethics in order to be motivated. What is "right" though? You have to come up with what is right by yourself. People may persuade you into thinking something is right. But once you find what is "right" by your own logic, you will do the right thing, and therefore be motivated. That's my analysis at face value based on what you have given.

    ****EDIT
In response to other people talking about passion. I think that's what passion really is. Finding out what is right in your own mind.
