I have been a healthcare worker since the early nineties. First as a nurse, later as a social worker. I have extended experience in mental health care and general social work. My specialty? Empowerment!
I am an active blogger. This last year my main focus is my recovery after surviving a stroke and my path back to normality.
An idea worth spreading
Encourage a patient to communicate openly and frankly with their healthcareprovider. Empower a patient to take up an equal position in the process of being sick or ill. Empower the healthcareworkers to feel comfortable in sharing the responsibility of a patients process. Believe in each other. Help each other. Be in it together. SHARE. It is quite simple really...
I'm passionate about
Since I've become a patient myself the need to be part of patient-driven care has only grown. I am very proud that I had the opportunity to speak at TEDxMaastricht about being an Empowered Patient.
My TED story
I have told my TED story at TEDxMaastricht (4-4-2011). I talked about regaining control over my own recovery process after surviving subarachnoid haemorrhage due to a ruptured aneurysm.
