I agree that not being controlling in this rule is very important, but I do believe that if you do decide to enforce such rules, you need to be firm and strong with your decision. I don't have a problem if kids use their cell phones every once in a while. But when it becomes a complete habit that you don't even look up once, that's where I get concerned. Of course, everyone has their own opinion to this, but I believe that we need to find a time to where we can separate nature and technology. I think it'll be so refreshing and fascinating when we open children's minds to what they truly have been indirectly missing just because of some electronics. Thanks for commenting :)

  Aug 15 2011: Hey Yan! I honestly do believe that those can be complete distractions. Like William said before, although you can use these gadgets for educational purposes, a main reason why they use them usually points towards noneducational purposes. I just feel like if it's becoming difficult to differentiate how, why, and where to use your electronics or not, it's a problem. Thank you for commenting!

  Aug 11 2011: Hey, Rachel. Exactly. And hopefully, in most cases, they realize that they don't need electronics or any type of technology to keep them occupied or satisfied. That maybe they can ooze into the idea that some outdoor activities that they have at my summer camp, for example, can create more joyous memories of childhood than always being on their cell phones.   Aug 11 2011: Hey, William. In my personal experience in dealing with kids, they become less distracted without the electronics. I see where you are coming from though. Maybe it all just depends where exactly you are. The setting and environment plays a mega role in whether they feel the need to be on their electronics all the time, or not. And I believe that encouraging them to download apps, etc. on nature for the benefit of activities or discussions could only go so far with some kids. Of course, this all depends on the age of the kids as well. Thanks for commenting!

  A comment on Conversation: If someone told you that giving up TV for a year would provide medication for a month for a person with AIDS for a month... Would you do it?

  Aug 8 2011: Most definitely. If anyone has to think twice about this question, that's concerning. You know it is questioning when technology and telelvision come before someones health and life. As far as being connected with the world, there are multiple ways to stay on top of the latest news. I haven't watched television for a year and half, and I'm 17. If I could do it just because, I could definitely do it for someone else's life.

• A comment on Conversation: what are we doing wrong nowadays?

  Aug 8 2011: This is a very good question with many answers, in my opinion. Our priorities are not exactly on point on some stuff. For example, we are investing way too much time and money on technology. Kids are growing up and growing into a technological world without fully appreciating what nature, and Earth has to offer. Together as a whole, we consume an abundance of food, and throw a lot of it away. Recycling can make a huge impact, if enough people do it. And we focus way too much on status and money. Like stated before, we need to learn how to enjoy life without all of the wants. We need to focus on our needs first. For the sake of our children, and geneartions to come.
