Jan 2 2013: Living in an area that consisted of ever failing schools, I opted to home school my 3 children. I had to learn everything I taught. However my kids pursued what interested them so vigorously that they usually ended up teaching me. The 3 of them are great independent learners, good conversationalists and are creative. Home schooling taught them to pursue. It was time I got to be with them while they were young and it did not cost the tax payers anything.

I was fortunate enough to discover Buddhism and its practice of compassion and forgiveness. This however is not something you read in a book and you are transformed. It takes dedication and training. But it is life changing. We all experience suffering on many levels. Meditation helps you to learn and grow from those places of hardship. You do not need formal training or a lot of time. I meditate on the bus to work for 20 minutes. The Fragrant Heart is a good free meditation site. I hope you consider this and my thoughts will be with you.
Jul 26 2011: I was under the impression that even private companies must adhere to EOE rules. Why would training for these positions be different. If you are mentally and physically capable of completeing whatever you are training for what is the problem? Age brings wisdom and experience.
Jul 26 2011: My children and I did this when they were teenagers. We would each write a few lines whenever we had the urge or a creative idea and kept each others story going. Some of the story was fiction. Other parts non-fiction. We had many notebooks and at one period did not speak for almost 2 weeks. It revealed so much and at times was hilarious. So were would you start this story and what would be the first line?
Jul 26 2011: I believe in passive ressistance first. However, tyranny exists in our world. If one of my children were to sacrifice their own life to save a nation of people from suffering I would feel grief for my lost child but pride for the genuine reasons behind that sacrifice. That said, we must hold our leaders accountable for the reasons we go to war.
