Oct 10 2011: There are many organizations ( both for profit and not for profit )working for the teacher training in India. They do have their own limitations. Their presence is very less when compared to the volume of activity. In fact I belong to a not for profit org. which is working for a better education would like to venture into teacher training. Government should involve in the process of teacher training. Though it is providing, its not adequate and meaningful. So Govt. and NGOs should teach the teachers. Conceptually no one can teach someone. We can inspire, motivate to learn something. So all the persons who have knowledge in the process may render their services. As Albert mentioned, they are hardest. Yes to some extent. Intervening into their own area may be wrongly perceived as a threat to their dignity. So we should be careful, after all they dedicated their careers to the lives of our hopes.
Oct 9 2011: Though the same things, well said. That is the Value and Power of the teacher. As Salim asked for complete reform which is difficult for execution, Teacher is the important stakeholder who can change the fate of the education.
Oct 9 2011: Yeah, Good question.
1. Every child is unique, let them be in their own pace, no comparison and little competition
2. Make their students self-learners, Teachers are there are to facilitate the learning process not the only source of learning
3. Collate and Comprehend the learnings , do not conclude.
4. Not only teacher everyone is a student. Teacher is older than student. Should continue learning.
5. Should perceive the importance of teaching profession in sculpting the young minds. Teaching is simply not a profession its beyond that.
6. Motivation is not a tool to get things done. It should be the outcome of the learning.
And many things will come if we keep on writing..."Ideal being" in a straight sense..
Oct 8 2011: Teachers do get professional education but that is not updated with emerging trends. They do stick to their own methods and "isms". This definitely makes impression on the students. The only solution is to make teaching profession as a lucrative job which then will attract the intellects and toppers. Now it become the last option.
Sep 10 2011: And Creativity without proper spiritual foundation may be disastrous. The present generation is not lagging in the creativity, I believe. Creativity is good and required. Today World is so much diversifies and have both goods and bads, and they are being penetrated into everyones' lives without knowing. So without comprehension, education may end up useless.
Aug 24 2011: I dont know till you mention it. When I Wikied the word, able to understand a bit that passive intellect which can only kindled by Active intellect for useful action. I need to go deep into further to know that. Are talking about the same thing? Your explanation is about information bombardment and the life on the 2D plane. Yes we do indulge in the digital world more than required. we dont know the limits and even dont care. We are imploring ourselves into a page (in web), Likes (in FB) and etc., by exploring the digiworld. We lost ourselves. This is leading us as humans who dont like other. We have friends and followers on the net to follow/interact for our specific qualities/behaviors. They might not accept us as a whole we are. We dont even try to interact with the world of unknown people. When I check-in to airport, opens the lappy immediately to launch the self into virtual world. But why? I got many people in the public place though unknown to me they are neither discourteous nor irrespectful. But still i love to hangout with people I like. We dont love and care each other. We need to sync the both worlds..thats the way out.
Aug 23 2011: After the last post: The color, design, make, brand and price we look after. Its a cultural change happened in our societies due to economic development. For example, in our Indian culture we used to buy clothes once/twice a year for a festival or on any special occasion. Now what happened, people are not waiting for festivals. They came to know that for buying clothes we need money, not festivals. What we say for this change ? Yes, there is no single answer for this. But if we drill down to the root cause we end up with change in individual's attitude, approach and application. The very purpose of buying clothes (in this example) is lost. This applies to each and every product we are using now. Think over. And if we go back and change our basics to simplicity, the entire economy will shift to a new base point. And of course, the environment (our subject) will be put a little better place than now.
Friends we need to talk extensively on this, for now I am taking break.
Aug 23 2011: Thank you Henrique, for surfacing such an important topic.
I do regularly keep tab on my carbon foot print. Be it water, paper and fuel. At my office, I use the paper on both sides. Using less water, optimising the electricity, using public transport are all, I am doing. But these acts contribute a lot for the cause of environment protection, they are not enough. We need to go beyond that. These are just like small medicines for a chronic disease. Medicines are not enough as we know, we need to change the complete metabolism.
Today we are leading lifestyles in a complexity that can never give you your life back. We are lost in that swirl. we need complete shift in our attitude, approach and application of of our thoughts. I believe spirituality have answers for every problem in this universe. we lost the very purpose of living. Though we get any good sign of reformation, rejuvenation and improvement, we see those something different. Something that are not connected with our lifestyles. As MK Gandhi rightly said, Everything is for your need, not for your greed. If we perceive for our greeds, then obviously we will land up in the situation where we cant meet our basic needs.
The simple idea we need to follow is : Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. These are simple terms and they are self explanatory. Though everyone are saying on these lines, the extent to which we are thinking and implementing will differ to person to person. So for reducing to the least level (means consumption), you need to change our entire lifestyle drastically. With this knowledge and attitude, I doubt we can do that. It demands a major shift and ultimately...Simplicity is the best answer. Keeping it simple or being simple is not so simple..Simplicity demands for a sustainable lifestyle which we are far from. For example: If we go out to buy a shirt, we need to think first why we require that ? But unfortunately, that is the last question we are encountering with. ----to be continued..
Jun 22 2011: Yes, you are right. Its unaffordable. The reasons may vary to country to country. If we take for India, a lot of social factors are hindering the advancement of education through the masses. Though the education is cheap in india, poverty is the main reason for unaffordability. Awareness, policies, political agenda and some social stigmas are also reasons. Do you know in India Naxalism doesnt allow education into some villages. If we drill down all these, we can struck at political will. So it doesnt go beyond the clutches of votebank. We need to doo something.
