Jul 2 2011: Yes, it is meaningless

That's hard to coop with, isn't it.

And that's why we believe in afterlife, religion, etc.

Jun 18 2011: I'm a bit late with replying on this topic. Around three months, which in internet-time means 3 year.
But for whoever's still interested; I'll just have a go at it.
I just finished my philosophy-report on 'the meaning of life',
    which has a great deal to do with the question being asked;

'Can we live without a religion?'
    My answer; No.

And the more important question; Why not?

I believe that mankind NEEDS believes.
Be it in a God or be it in believing there is no God,.
Believes are not just in religions.
    Nietzsche believes in a 'Will'.
A driving force that makes us want to succeed.

That takes me to the whole purpose of believes in general.
    (To my believe;)
Believes are created to give life a sense of purpose.
We, the human race, NEED to feel meaning in our life.
It's what keeps our motor running,
It's what drives us from education to education, job to job,
Without a sense of meaning why would we even 'make an effort'?

If God is not going to reward us, why would we even try to be in his good books?
And if we realize it or if we don't, we all have a 'God'; a driving force that makes us want to succeed.

But thinking deeper about this question,
this answer doesn't quite cover it all.

Because why do we need these theories, religions, believes, lifestyles (as they have been called in these conversations) so badly to give our life meaning?

We need those thoughts, cause believing that live has no meaning ,
    scares us.
Thinking that in a million years, my presence and your presence didn't contribute/change or had a purpose in any other way makes all our present actions feel like useless proceedings.
It does even more than scaring us, it enables us to live life as we are used to it.

What if thriving forward suddenly doesn't really make any sense?
Why would I even try making an effort at school
or try to be enter this blog an share my thoughts with you

if in the end it doesn't matter.

    That's why we need religions.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but believing that beliefs are not true is still believing.
