Joi Ito: Want to innovate? Become a "now-ist"
Respectfully beg to differ. Not that anything Jo Ito says is wrong, it's just that he omits something very important: money. I have the skill to build and the knowledge to understand the open-source Geiger counter, but at USD 450.00 on Amazon the kit is just beyond my resources. And in my country I'm one of the richer people! (I can afford enough bandwidth to watch this video, for example.) It's easy to innovate in a resource-rich environment. I'm not sure I can learn much from Joi Ito. I am, however, humbled by people like William Kamkwamba, who built a wind generator from scrap in Malawi.

Richard Seymour: How beauty feels
In "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" Robert Prisig talks about the same thing, except he calls it "Quality" Also, read the lecture "The name and nature of poetry" by AE Housman, in which he describes the same phenomenon, but from the perspective of poetry.

LIVE CHAT With Damon Horowitz: When have you realized that you were wrong about what you once thought was right? June 8, 2011, 5-6PM EDT
I changed my mind about global warming. I'm not sure what made me become an environmentalist. I turned from being industrial-minded to being convinced we're doing great damage to nature. This came about through getting myself better educated, in part, but I'm not sure what made me swing the other way. There wasn't a sudden conversion.
