Mariya Derelieva is a prize-winning translator, having graduated with distinction and the highest marks from the Spanish Language School 'Miguel de Cervantes' in Sofia in 2009. During her studies she has been praised for her language abilities, exceeding in the National Spanish Olympiads in 2007-2009, winning the 'Viaje a Espana' competition sponsored by the Spanish Embassy, completing a Spanish course in the prestigious Colegio Delibes in Salamanca and winning participation in the EU Socrates exchange programme 'Under the Same Sky'. At the same time, she has been actively involved in social and outreach work for the British Council, the Bulgarian Red Cross and UNICEF. She has proceeded to graduate with a First Class Honours History degree with distinction at King's College London, working alongside world-renowned academics such as Dr Wendy Bracewell, Dr Anne Goldgar, Dr Francisco Bethencourt. Moreover, she has been one of the founder students of the King's College Balkan Society, for which she has received the King's College Silver and Lion Awards. Alongside her studies and a job at Microsoft, Mariya has participated in Italian and Portuguese language courses, both of which she has finished with distinction. Miss Derelieva has been a vital Student Ambassador for the King's College London Marketing department, especially selected as an Aimhigher mentor and one of the few students providing guidance to Queen Elizabeth during her visit to the university. Moreover, she has acted as interpreter and translator for the EU and UN, BTV, Bulgarian National Film Centre, as well as for an array of world-class translation agencies. Apart from her fluency in Italian and Portuguese obtained throughout her degree, she has further qualifications such as CELTA in English, DELE Superior in Spanish and DALF in French, speaking an overall of six languages to a native standard.
