Nov 29 2011: James, that is another great question. In some cases, synchronicity will help guide those folks to a common creative space but sometimes you have to really dig to find other folks. I always thought you could use social tools like Twitter or Facebook to find those folks but those tools need to be focused on the types of people you are seeking, similar to what TED.com does with their site. They are out there and all they need is a compassionate incentive and they will dive right in.

Nov 29 2011: This strikes a chord that is starting to resonate more and more every day as people are challenged to do what they love. One question I think that needs to be answered is what will it take to sustain your food, clothing, and shelter requirements? If you need six figures to sustain yourself, then you may need to focus more on a job but if you are comfortable with a very modest income, then you may be able to focus more quickly on what you love. It amazes me how the jobs people love pay so little. Also, what sort of "payment" are you seeking? As you mention, some people are motivated by a labor of love and if that is the case, there will always be a "federal reserve" with plenty of money to go around.

Nov 29 2011: Andres, thanks for the guidance. These conversations are expansive!

Nov 29 2011: David, what then are the "carrots on the end of a stick"? What is the incentive for people to pick food?

Nov 28 2011: David, competition is key and is one of the foundations upon which our economy is built. So, do you believe more in the survival of the fittest through competition decides the success of any economy? How do you see the economy evolving in the next 100 years? Psychologists B.F. Skinner believed you could create a society that uses credits instead of money. The credits could be earned a variety of ways. Perhaps I am naive but could the credits be earned through good deeds instead of who is the fastest and the strongest?

Nov 26 2011: So then the next question is how do you find out what appeals to people? How do you get people to buy into what you are trying to do? Do you determine the direction or do you let the "crowd" determine the direction of the business requirements?
  • A reply on Conversation: Too many ideas lead us to lack of focus and too many successful examples leave us rather frustrated (and/or envious!)

Nov 26 2011: I guess what I am curious about is how people are applying the knowledge they learn at a TED event. Do they take those ideas and start making the world a better place or does the brochure go in a drawer next to the bed and people simply looking forward to the next TED event but never apply the ideas?
  • A comment on Talk: Gabe Zichermann: How games make kids smarter

Nov 21 2011: I like his prescription. Sometimes in order to slow down we need to speed up and find a new speed to operate at. Video games are becoming the new way to tell stories.
  • A reply on Conversation: Can Poetry save the World?

May 29 2011: Ideas create that spark you mention. Then it is up to that person to ignite that spark. We definitely need a lot more inspiration to change history. What do you think is the trick that helps people apply that inspiration? How can we take that inspiration and apply it?
