A comment on Talk: Ernesto Sirolli: Want to help someone? Shut up and listen!

Nov 28 2012: Wonderful and simple concept....LISTEN! For the last two centuries we have, as a society, slowly migrated from a free market capitalism to an imperialistic condescending form of capitalism. Fortunately, there are companies in the U.S. and the world who have actually broken ranks and embrace the concept of conscious capitalism. A capitalism partially defined by the Art of Listening, not Oppressing.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences Ernesto.

Nov 17 2012: What I find amazing about TED Talks is how diverse the subjects and the presenters are. You don't have to be an extraordinary orator when you have an extraordinary story to tell. Your heart communicates in ways no tongue can match. Well done young Lady...BRAVO!!

A reply on Talk: Elizabeth Gilbert: Your elusive creative genius

    Oct 21 2012: Hertin,

Your macro view of humanities relationship with "GOD" is one that I agree with. The notion that current religious dogma tends to shepherd its followers to the "Island of Comfort," is very obvious to this reader and possibly not so obvious to many.

I guess where our views part a bit is when you suggest that "God is for the weak." I am not sure if you are suggesting that there is no higher being or suggesting that some have become so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good? I actually hold the view that there most certainly is a creator, divine, supreme intelligence,God, source, energy, or what ever some choose to call it. I believe the physical world is replete with evidence that suggests this. I also, contrary to much of the religious dogma of the day, believe this source or energy resides within all...everything. We are all Gods within.

If we as humans, would take the time to become still and sit in quiet meditation, we will discover the beauty and wonder of the source. We will find ourselves connecting to the energy and flow of life in a way that permits us to accept and embrace every occurrence for what it is; a sign, neither good nor bad...just a sign.

In short, I believe there is an intelligent source that is a part of who we are. We are all one, of one source heading in one direction. Some choose to sit and listen to the source with their energy or spirit, and some choose to trudge through this physical domain consumed within a state of fear. They are moving through the same nights everyone else is moving through, the only difference is they spend their time screaming at the darkness rather than embracing it for its beauty and wisdom. Is there a God? I think yes. Is it the punitive god being peddled by most religious entities today...I think not. The source is LOVE; that explains it all.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, they left me better than they found me.

    Oct 20 2012: Mukesh,

People within a free and self governing society, must have access to knowing the behaviors and activities of those who govern. Indeed, there is certainly the risk of information falling into the hands of those who are determined to annihilate free peoples, however, I wonder if there is more harm being done by the autocratic rule and manipulation of peoples around the world. If the foreign policy of each nation, took as its guiding principle, the pursuit of peace, I believe the entire nation would begin to find ways to wage peace rather than war. As much as that may sound like a fantasy, I strongly believe humans have a tendency to see what they are told to see. If they are told to look for peace, I believe they will look for peace in every word and action that arises. If they are told--by the Commercial Military Establishment--to look for war, then war is their choice. I do not believe access to information can be viewed in a vacuum. It must be viewed as a necessary tool for a free people to protect themselves from the abusiveness and deadly behaviors of the autocratic or oligarchical power mongers. It cannot be applied directly to the conditions we are seeing in many cultures today. Not only should we consider our current situations, but more importantly, we should construct a path towards peaceful existence. This cannot be accomplished through the EGO's of a few unaccountable politicians, It must be accomplished with the masses. A simple and yet profound message that has led most free people to the attainment of their freedom; Responsibility begets Peace and Peace delivers FREEDOM! The key word is RESPONSIBILITY.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this matter. Thank you for sharing!

May 21 2012: Become a GREAT Listener! I always listen with my head nodding yes. It seems to help me listen not only to the words, but it helps me understand the essence of what the speaker is saying. There is nothing more satisfying than someone who is totally focused on your thoughts and what your are saying, rather than sitting before you cocked and loaded ready to shoot their superior ideas back at you.

One other thing I have found very effective...Thank You. and then... Your Welcome. I must say, after 25 years as an entrepreneur, I have found that its always the fundamentals that work the best. We all know them, but for some reason we don't think they are applicable in the business world. They are! Expecting the best from people usually brings out the best in them. If a teammate is irritable and maybe using terse words with you and others, instead of firing back, I will look for an appropriate time to ask if everything is ok. You never know what may be going on in someones life. 90% of the time they are going through some type of personal difficulty. A listening ear goes along way and builds amazing team cohesion.

Just a few thoughts. I hope you find some of it useful.

    I wish you well!
