Roger McNamee: 6 ways to save the internet
If you type in yelp to get there, do you see a paid link for yelp or a free one? As of writing, Yelp doesn't by ads for its own name keyword. In that scenario, Google loses money (a very tiny fraction of a cent but still) because they only get paid when you click on a paid ad. Google searches that do not result in revenue are overhead. The number of companies that buy advertising on google on their own company name is shrinking as they get more educated.

The disconnect you're missing is vast chasm between android market share (they're running at about half of sales) and android browser share (they're running under 20%). So what's keeping those android users off the web and is that trend likely to continue? Where developers code determines which OS dies and which lives. Will developers look at all those non-browsing android devices and say that they're not going to develop for them because android users don't browse the web? That sounds unlikely.

Adobe's announced that it will no longer be developing flash for mobile uses. Given that the whole market is shifting massively towards mobile, that marks flash as dead technology walking. If you want to argue with Adobe into restarting their full feature flash support, be my guest. We'll try to keep the laughter down.

you might want to rethink that comment, at least partially. Apple's use of, and contributions to open source are documented at http://opensource.apple.com . They're less a closed shop these days than they've ever been since the introduction of the Macintosh. Part of the long-term Apple model has been to rejoin the herd as their competition no longer sucks. They dropped ADB in favor of USB for low speed peripherals. They dropped PPC in favor of Intel as soon as Intel dropped their power consumption/heat production to levels Apple could tolerate. You pay the Apple tax but you also get ecosystem benefits. For a certain demographic that's a worthwhile expense. Apple will dominate if that demographic grows. The HTML5 world discussed in the video is likely to grow the demographic.
