Here is my TED talk: http://tedxtalks.ted.com/video/TEDxSDSU-John-Shaw-I-Got-an-Ide I grew up in Culver City, California, in the shadows of the studios and backlots where classics like “Gone With The Wind and “Wizard of Oz” were filmed. As a kid, I may or may not have snuck onto those backlots, and may or may not have been chased away each time by those security guards. The ones who drove golf carts. And wore beige uniforms. And yelled a lot.
I graduated from California State University Northridge with a degree in Management Theory and no student loans. An upside of life in the 80’s was low tuition. An offset was Hair Metal.
FocalPoint Business Coaching and Shaw Creative Works were founded after three fulfilling decades in Senior Executive roles. As a Certified Business Coach, I work with business and community leaders to close the gap between their dreams for the future and the realities of today. My passion is doing the same alongside successful people - working with them to clarify and create the life they want to live, and the world where they want to live it, faster than they would on their own.
Relanguaged: I shorten timeframes.
In addition to Business Coaching, I'm an active member of the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, chairing the Education Committee; the Poway Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Business Resource Committee; and the Rancho Bernardo Business Association. I also belong to Dollar Shave Club (look it up).
Better yet, I'm married to my high-school sweetheart, Kathy. I love to create. Writing, poetry, painting, and cooking as some of my passions, though most can’t be called “talents”. I love time with my family, sports, eclectic music, an intriguing book, buzzwords like "relanguaged", and a fish on the line.
Mexican food. Buzzwords like "relanguaged". Jazz.
Everything that you and I do is motivated by a desire to feel better about ourselves. We love, we loathe, and we leave. We help, we humor, or we hate. We start, we strive, we stop. We achieve, we acquire, and we amass. We give, we get, and we grapple. We fight, we forgive, we flout. And we do all of this because we think we are better for it.

A comment on Conversation: What should I really do with my youth? I'm 18, and I want to really learn. Advice from any adults out there?
Be wise and listen to the good stuff from those who know you and care about you. Be brave and ignore the sounds of "should", "don't", "can't", and "later" that echo in your head. Be inspired and listen to how YOU answer questions like "What if ______?" and "How can I _______?
And don't forget to stop searching once in awhile, and just BE, and DO, and ENJOY.
