An idea worth spreading

Personal responsibility is the solution for most of the worlds problems. Parents hold most of the responsibility and too many discard their responsibilities on the rest of society. An ill-raised child is more dangerous than any weapon. A properly raised child is a light to the world.
My hope is that science and technology will shine the light of truth ever brighter into the human world, and elevate it to fantastic heights.

My TED Story

I am a US citizen and resident in the Atlanta area, the son of a Hungarian Immigrant who escaped from the 1957 revolution. It is a shame to see those tragedies and horrors being repeated in these modern times, in Venezuela, Cuba and by leftist politicians.

A comment on Talk: Anthony Atala: Printing a human kidney

Jun 14 2011: This work is great, but the presentation is misleading especially with Luke at the end. The fact that Luke received "an engineered bladder" is glossed over after the printed "kidney structure" is presented. I hope that this misleading sequence was not done deliberately. The presentation has somewhat of a marketing style to it, which concerns me. I realize that this may have been done for fundraising purposes, but the facts are amazing in of themselves and more care should be taken to ensure against misrepresentation.
  • A comment on Talk: Sean Carroll: Distant time and the hint of a multiverse

May 30 2011: The term MULTI-verse seems like an oxymoron, and/or a marketing gimmick . The universe or cosmos means everything ! E,v,e,r,y,t,h,i,n,g ! Our universe might very well have 'bubbles', in which we live in one bubble. We didn't redefine the term universe when we discovered that there was much more beyond the milky-way, so it seems pretty egotistical do so now.

A comment on Talk: Van Jones: The economic injustice of plastic

Jan 31 2011: This guy is all assertions, no facts, data or insight. Its sad to see Ted.com air such one-sided speakers. Plastic has helped the poor and the world a great deal.
  • A reply on Talk: Jody Williams: A realistic vision for world peace

Jan 10 2011: Agreed. I guess her point is about being an active contributor versus a passive supporter. The rest of the world needs to keep running though, so I would have liked her see speak about how to manage both. Her interest in other people's money (the US$80B for arms agreements) was disconcerting. Maybe I missed it, but she didn't emphasize how education or technology is playing an ever more important role too.
  • A comment on Theme: Is There a God?

Dec 27 2010: I'm surprised that more 'enlightened' people don't realize how much "God" is a matter of semantics. Each person has their own definition that is much more complex than the definition in the dictionary. Words are usually inadequate to capture each person's definition and feeling on the subject, so the arguing leaves both parties frustrated.
  • A comment on Talk: Peter Haas: Haiti's disaster of engineering

Oct 14 2010: In my humble opinion, this talk should be entitled "Haiti's disaster of SOCIAL engineering". The masonry know-how has been available within and around Haiti for centuries. The part that is missing is the incentive to gather, apply and maintain the knowledge. The lack of incentive due to the lack of private ownership and property rights seems to be the real root cause. I would like to see a study analyze and contrast how well privately owned buildings faired versus publicly owned buildings. In my experience, property crumbles under the neglect of public ownership. This tragedy will be even worse if the root cause is not identified and treated before it happens again.

A comment on Talk: Hans Rosling: The good news of the decade?

Oct 7 2010: Its great to see the facts tell such good news. I'm glad that Hans follows the facts, and not the prevailing political hype/pressures about the West, Africa, Asia or elsewhere.
  • A reply on Talk: Steve Truglia: A leap from the edge of space

Sep 12 2009: Yes I don't expect him to be knowledgeable of IT or software. Something also might be being lost in the translation (British versus American English). However, the fact that he describes the 'interface' between the stunt-world with the IT-world at 6:48 places the statement in the context of recognizing two distinct industries. He then calls green screening 'THE VERY highest achievement in IT...' (with emphasis). I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that that was just dramatic mis-speak. Otherwise, I might have to send him some uninformed claims about the stunt-world and Bruce Lee as the best ever. LOL.

Its a great promotional opportunity for the Space Tourism effort. I hope that he gets a sponsor or two from that market.
  • A comment on Talk: Steve Truglia: A leap from the edge of space

Sep 10 2009: I enjoyed the talk but was surprised that the role of computer graphics wasn't mentioned more. Computer generated graphics seems to be the future in the movie business, however as a software professional I have to take issue with how he described green-screens as the 'highest technology in IT and software'. Its neat, but pales in comparison to the IT applications in medical, military, finance, and several other industries. I also was surprised that he didn't mention the aspect of Space tourism in regard to diving from Space. That was a cover article for Popular Science a couple years ago: http://www.popsci.com/military-aviation-space/article/2007-06/high-dive. In any case, the speaker seems to be great at what he does.

A comment on Talk: Gordon Brown: Wiring a web for global good

Aug 12 2009: Its scary that someone like Mr. Brown wielded so much power in England. He seems to have no regard for the freedom of others to act independently of his passions. How ironically arrogant. It was good that he raised more awareness of these tragedies, but he should recognize that people have the right to be free from his marching orders.
