Aug 8 2011: Maybe try watching the video again and listening to what she's actually saying. She's not saying men are less, she's saying that women have ADAPTED better to the current skills needed in the workforce and therefore find it easier to insert themselves into the job.
Also FYI just because a woman says something you don't like does not mean she's either butch or a lesbian. You might want to check that attitude before graduating.
Aug 8 2011: I do not agree that women are the only ones that can truly be mothers (apart from the biological labelling). Being a good primary carer comes from spending the time getting to know your child so that you recognise their cues. Many women do this whilst on maternity leave as they spend 24/7 with their new baby. It's a sad fact that statutory paternity leave is pitifully short at the moment and does not give the father the time to fully bond with their child. My partner and I often lamented that he was not able to stay at home with our daughter as he would've liked to look after her. In our relationship HE is the man and earns literally double what I do, it does not make financial sense for him to give up work and for me to be the provider as we would not survive.
Having a vagina does not label me as a good mother, having a penis does not exclude men from being excellent primary carers.
Apr 11 2011: I have on my "to read" list for work a book about how physical activity also encourages learning off the top of my head I think it's called "Spark" but will have to double check, anyway this kind of relates to an idea of mine to run revision sessions for kids in our club (I'm the children's programme co-ordinator for a kung fu club) whic not only help teach meditation and revision techniques, but also some physical exercises they can do to help "pep up" their brains during a stonker of a revision session.
There is some work done on colours and learning in regards to dyslexia, my friend found her learning improved a massive amount once they discovered that rose tinted glasses (I kid ye not) meant she could focus better on the words.
There's also music with "Alphawaves" in it by John Levine. He's composed a number of different CDs to help encourage the brain to enter into a particular phase so it's more receptive to certain things e.g. sleeping/learning. We use it in Tai Chi to help people relax, for me it blends straight into the background...so much so tht I don't even register when the CD has finished but we've found some people that it massively irritates which just goes to show: to each their own.
Apr 11 2011: I've actually become a ted addict due to my boss :P we now have an ongoing thing where I try to find a video he hasn't seen and I'm happy to say the other day I did :)
Apr 11 2011: this! Also I think there's a community in Scotland as well that do this, I'm sorry I can't provide more details but I read about it years ago. I do remember though that people/families could only move into the community after a trial basis of living there and contributing to make sure the family weren't going through a fad of "oh my god that sounds awesome let's do that now!" and were actually committed to that type of lifestyle.
Apr 11 2011: There are some people who do this already. I was reading a story a while back and they just put up each chapter as they wrote it and let people comment with feedback etc. When there was enough interest they then published the book allowing people to pre-order etc. It worked out quite well I think the main problem would getting it to be so people would see it at first.
Apr 11 2011: let the kids design some things, from the videos I've watched they can achieve amazing things after being given a very simple guideline to follow!

A comment on Conversation: Pencils not posies: Bridal couples often receive flowers at their wedding. How about collecting, and donating, school materials instead?
