A reply on Conversation: What are few tough questions you faced so far from a KID

Jun 14 2011: I wholeheartedly agree! I don't have children of my own yet, but have nannied and have a younger brother. One example Id like to share - a boy I watched from 9months old to 4yrs old once made me question my own decisions. I have been a cigarette smoker for years, but always keep it separate from the kids I watch because I worry it will leave an impression, even if subconscious. (Someone they looked up to did this, so now they try it). When this child was around 3 I was sitting for his mom, I thought he was down for the night so I wen tout onto the porch for a smoke. Shortly after I came back in, he woke up and came into the living room - hugged me and said "You smell funny". I'm sure I came up with something to brush it aside, but I had always been honest with him and was now faced with what to say to explain my dirty unhealthy habit, and I drew a blank...Difficult!
  • A reply on Conversation: What makes you feel ALIVE?

Jun 14 2011: I can definitely agree with that - I remember as a child going over what I would say to someone who had pissed me off in the past, or if I got the chance what I would say the next time. As an adult (still very young) I have taken joy in telling someone how I feel right in the moment instead of waiting until its too late. Especially now that I'm older than those angst-y days and have the power of wit...
  • A reply on Conversation: Nothing's off topic

Jun 14 2011: I used to think that a one world government was inevitable. I also thought that this could only lead to a corrupt oppressive power with no one to monitor the beheadings. I thought this because my mom is obsessed with the rapture and my childhood was filled with scary stories about what trials we would face before Jesus took us home. Now, however, I am a young adult (24) that thinks for herself, and I honestly believe that the ebb and flow of things; the natural order, will continue to knock prosperous societies down a notch, if not entirely, before world government can lay foundation. And if it does happen, rather than the book of Revelation scaring me, I still worry that Brave New World, 1984 and A Clockwork Orange are prophecies. So to conclude my long winded answer - I think any government will devolve before a OWG rises, but not because of a lock of choice, because of the natural order of things.

A comment on Conversation: how do i make or add friends?

Jun 14 2011: I think the biggest pieces of the puzzle, whether online or in person - is to be honest. Don't pretend to be anything other than you because faking is easily sniffed out and its a turn off. In a nutshell, don't try hard to be what you think other people are looking for - be you and do it with a sense that if the people you are talking with don't like the real you its not your loss. I don't mean be an ass, just be comfortable with being a person that not everyone will like and like minded people are bound to recognize you! If you're naturally shy I recommend taking notice to how many strangers you could say hello to, but don't. Every time you notice yourself avoiding striking up a conversation - make a point to say hello next time. Even if it is only the word hello and a look in the eye, eventually it will become easy.

A comment on Conversation: What makes you feel ALIVE?

Jun 14 2011: No Miss America answer here...
What makes me feel alive is being alone with my boyfriend (high school sweethearts>loved each other 9 years and counting) - whether we are interacting with words or bodies, or just doing our own thing silently in separate rooms, I always feel like I'm experiencing something other people search for.
Also, being with friends and laughing so hard that passer-by must think us problematic.
And of course, good music, good conversation, and good beer culminate in a joie de vivre that can't be denied!

A comment on Conversation: why are we not yet developing electricity from lightning?

Jun 14 2011: That's thinking in the right direction! Unfortunately, from what I've read; lightning is so sporadic we don't have the technology to harness it unless we take up an unimaginable amount of ground space. Also, the lightning that actually hits ground wouldn't be powerful enough to replace the fossil fuels we all have become accustomed to. Catch it in the atmosphere at the moment of release, you say? I agree this would be much more efficient as far as harvest versus work spent to capture - but again, not enough to uphold the lifestyle our biggest energy users want. Anyway, I don't want to sound like a nay-sayer; I love that people are talking about alternatives - it is the only way to pull this plane up. I think we should all consider befriending our closest neighbors and learning to grow our own food though!

A comment on Conversation: Shakespeare, jazz, espresso,& buona vita.

    Jun 14 2011: Super Mario Brothers 3.
I am not kidding - it takes me back to some of the best times of my childhood - memories when I was content without question or worry. Now, when I hear the music, or play the classic itself - I do a little dance (^_^)
You can liken it to Pavlov's bell or something deep and intelligent if you like.
Fact is, I love that game and I'm happy thinking about it because it gave me something I didn't know I needed as a child; JOY DE VIVRE!
  • A comment on Conversation: What do you know about TED?

Jun 14 2011: I love this website because it allows me to hear and read from people I will never meet in my life. I've shared so many things that I was introduced to because of this bookmark on my browser. However, I'm sad to say that I really don't know anything about how TED started, what is currently going on, projects, etc. Honestly, TED is just an awesome site that I visit from time to time. Now that you've pointed that out Mr. Strobl, I think I'll take a gander :) Thanks!

A comment on Conversation: Do you have a suggestion for TED? Something we could do better?

Jun 14 2011: My first stop on TED is the themes/images page, and I'd love it if the thumbnails (once hovered over) contained the length and upload date.

I haven't read all of the posts, I'm sorry if this is redundant!

    Thanks for the read (^_^)
