A comment on Talk: Charlie Todd: The shared experience of absurdity

Nov 11 2011: Holy smokes if there is something this planet needs is for people to LAUGH MORE! Big hat tip! Wondering if there is an "IE" for Detroit....
  • A comment on Conversation: What's one thing you wish you had learned in school?

Nov 2 2011: A class on HINDSIGHT telling me to stay in school. I quit and got my GED some time after.

A comment on Talk: Charles Hazlewood: Trusting the ensemble

Oct 7 2011: TRUST YOUR EARS! I am a musician and have been for years. Started on guitar at about 9 years old. Took 4 WHOLE lessons. I've been playing by ear ever since. I've played in bars, schools, churches, a kiwanis halls(at 15 years old) and pretty much every party I've ever attended where someone was passing around a guitar. But I cannot read music AT ALL. Trusting in yourself and your fellow musicians is key to really sinking into a groove, (lol, if anyone talks like that anymore!) but also there are a TON of musicians that get their confidence shaken by being or playing in the presence of a "better musician". Confidence and trust are huge issues to overcome for young musicians. He is absolutely correct on this. Young musicians, trust your ears AND yourselves!
  • A comment on Conversation: Is the internet, not formal education, the new great equalizer?

Oct 6 2011: The ONLY thing that concerns me is the depth of the education. I am guilty as hell of reading/learning JUST enough to do what I need to do, programming-wise. I think that maybe I would have skipped over fundamentals because I learned "just enough" on my own. Anyone else know what i mean by that?

A comment on Conversation: The world lost one of its greatest visionaries tonight. A man who made a real difference. What would you say to Steve Jobs, if you could?

Oct 6 2011: How high have you set the bar for the rest of us, dear friend. Steve Jobs is a hero of mine. We should all strive for what he has achieved. Staying hungry and foolish. Thank you, indeed. My families thoughts are with the Jobs family. My most sincere condolences for the loss of an amazing individual.

A comment on Conversation: What are you doing to make the world a better place?

Jul 25 2011: Since I am just a lowly web designer, I have decided some time back to create 3 websites for topics that are dear to me or my family. The first is a community based site for the parents of cancer patient children, where the importance is the quality of living for the child, be it getting the proper information to parents new to dealing with this during an already overwhelming time or just a place to set a community work day to build swingsets and stuff for those same folks. Another is a pet shelter directory that is free for shelters to make a place to post rescues online for shelters that can't really afford such media interaction (most small ones are funded by one or two key folks) and another for something for our beloved military. Lots of vets get divorced because of the time away from home, many due to infidelity. I am thinking about doing a community based site for this. The first two have domain names already and are being built right now(albeit slowly since I have to make a living) but my third is not set in stone yet as far as the topic. That is just one of the things our soldiers face...

A reply on Talk: Jack Horner: Building a dinosaur from a chicken

Jul 11 2011: And by the way, the earth is approximately 4 and half billion years old, not "millions of billions". Never mind that, just think about your statement. You're not really saying much of anything. The speaker said flat out we will never be able pull a "jurassic park", as we cannot get the genetic material from a fossil. Beyond "Because it isn't", what do you have to offer to substantiate your point of view? We kinda care about having a point around here...
