Clay Shirky: Why SOPA is a bad idea
I've been in IT for a very long time, and I came up with a saying a while back, "For every countermeasure there is a measure." Every time someone has invented a technology to counteract some other technology, there's always been a new, better technology to replace it. Napster first, then Gnutella, then BitTorrent is the most obvious example. It's impossible to stop the roll of technology, the only thing that regulations like these do is push technology to invent the next measure.

Kirk Sorensen: Thorium, an alternative nuclear fuel
I liked the talk, but at the end he used buzzwords to promote the product. Thorium is not a sustainable solution, it may be able to generate a lot more power for a lot less fuel, but there is, eventually, a limit to the fuel, just as there ended up being limits to fossil fuels as well.

Svante Pääbo: DNA clues to our inner neanderthal
This statement begins with the assumption that since we had more advanced language and prefrontal cortex structures in our brain Sapiens is "superior" in a genetic sense. You may argue that these structures are merely different, however, the adaptations squeezed the Neanderthal out of existance, wether by more intelligence or just plain luck, it does appear that Sapiens was superior to Neanderthal. In addition, earlier is simply a marker, they split from the same source as Sapiens at an earlier time in history. Neanderthal and Denisovans were earlier departures from Africa than Sapiens.

If you could ask one question to all of your neighbors, what would you ask?
I posted it on Facebook before I read all the other comments and now I have a slightly different question: First my original "If there's one thing I can do to make your day better, what would it be?" After reading all those Facebook comments I think a better question would be "If there's one thing I can do to make your day better (besides getting rid of all your neighbors that complain about you), what would it be?"
