  A comment on Conversation: What's your TED habit?

  Oct 19 2011: Most internet connections in Ethiopia are not cable for viewing videos on the internet .It is very slow and expensive .I would have to the university I have been studying or other government institution to access video content.I download all the new TED releases when I get internet.I view them a day or two after downloading usually in the evening after I eat my dinner . more than half of the talks released in a typical week interest me . I would see 3 or 4 talks in a a row.I would tell most people I meet about TED talks. I explain what it is about ,how inspirational it is,how often talks are released.Since most people here don't have the internet access like the one I have,I share the downloaded videos to every one interested.

• A comment on Conversation: Who could best contribute to the ideas of computer-based math education?

  Oct 13 2011: I have waited to the end date to see all the other comments before I write my own. I have seen Conrad ted talk many times. Though some people were not interested,I have shared it with many people . I have seen more than 200 Ted talks ,but Conrad talk is by far the best one for me. That may be because I am a victim of bad math eduction .I remember during in mindless drills in elementary schools while I was in elementary school and junior high school.But my mind stopped accepting probably after I was grade 11.In my country Ethiopia ,most architects,engineers ,chemistry don't use math advanced than algebra.Students ,teaches fail to get the real purpose of mathematics.I remember once my highschool English teacher saying that the purpose of square roots and simultaneous equation is to broaden and exercise you mind. The thing that has kept from giving up on math education in my country is the excellent textbooks and nine resources out there. Modern textbooks like Stewart calculus have excellent content and projects to induce real math understanding.I have uploaded some pictures

  Properly using this tools with the super tools like mathemaica and wolfram alpha can transform math from "following steps" subject" to a subject interesting ,applicable subject. Using computers properly one can focus its mind on the big picture . I think I can be a great help to the computer based math education . I can bring the perceptive from a developing country .

  A comment on Conversation: What can be done to get the most out of one's schooling? What would you change about your education experience?

  Aug 29 2011: There is little I can do as a student. In most schools a student can’t take charge of his learning experience. You don’t choose what courses you take, what textbook you are using, when to study, when to take exams, what assignments to do, when to do it ,to what depth you are going to study. But I would have been very happen if I had learned in a Result only learning environment (ROLE)

  Aug 29 2011: My Idea about reading
  For a long time I thought that reading happens by starting from the first word right the way to the last word. Consciously understanding everything. Critiquing and questioning every sentence. Now I understand our mind more capable than that. It is not what on the paper that matter but what is happening in our head. You don’t need to read every sentence to extract information from a written material. And learning happens on layers. You can’t be expert right the way. To make this sustainable I question my ideas beliefs every day. Discuss with people, find out what the experts say ,Critically question your thoughts e.t.c.

• A comment on Conversation: The Right of Free Travel (visa-free) for Every Human Being on Planet Earth

  Aug 24 2011: It all comes down to economy. It is unlikely for some poor person in Africa to spend thousands of dollar just visit to Europe or America. Most plan to stay there get a job bring their relatives. If you can prove to the visa issuers that you going to come back, and your primary purpose of going there is to visit you can get a visa. They even encourage you to come because they need the tourism money. I have some objection in "the geography where one was born in defines how much of the planet is accessible to him/her”. Some People living, in this geographic area, who have money to travel and spend ,can go to any country they want. It sad so many people in the poor countries are not eligible to travel. But the reason is the economic injustice that is prevalent in the world. That has to be tackled first.

  Aug 24 2011: It is a good idea.I have been thinking about his. one thing I have noted is so many people are willing to share something they really know and passionate about .Even without monetary reward.are .The wiki model is good but it needs to be less formal and more interactive One thing to note. The vast majority of Internet users in Africa don't access it using computer.They are using their mobile phone.The content and platform has to accessible through mobile.

• A comment on Conversation: Is the green design effective in the third world? The balance of intitial cost and running cost with in consderation of per person income

  Aug 19 2011: I am also from a third world country to the east of sudan.Green design doesn't only come from the material. Last week I visited a high rise building in Addis Ababa city. I can hardly say light comes from the outside.All floors on the building were artificially lit. It is air conditioned using electricity. you can improve the heating and cooling of the building by using natural methods like trees. you can improve how light enters the building .using more sunlight and less artificial light during the day. And all green materials are not expensive some are even cheaper. you can use cheaper ,greener alternatives until governments subsides the green alternative
