  • A comment on Conversation: How can we use social media or other applications to improve medicine? or should we?

Aug 24 2012: Sorry for being unclear. Sometimes things make a ton of sense in my head.
  • A reply on Conversation: How can we use social media or other applications to improve medicine? or should we?

Aug 23 2012: I'm sorry, but I don't understand how this helps make medicine social. I'm talking about using social media applications to enhance the medical field.
  • A comment on Conversation: A more efficient email

Jul 2 2012: Sorry, this is probably my bad for not explaining my idea better.

I wasn't really thinking about the how, but more of a 30,000 ft. view of the idea.

Consider email services like gmail, which are online email boxes that don't use external programs like outlook.

You wouldn't have to consider spam as an issue because you can choose to turn their permission on or off. For example, I get an email newsletter from FastCompany every morning. So, in one week I get 7 emails from FastCompany. If I could "flip the switch" that gives FastCompany the ability to just constantly update the one email, they would never have to send me another email, simply update the first they sent me which would operate like a constantly updated little mini site inside my email.
  • A reply on Conversation: to grade people in high school on improvement vs. right or wrong

Jun 21 2012: No, I just have a personal story. Member of the family is super smart, but can't do well in school and it has to do with his confidence vs. his ability to absorb and regurgitate knowledge. To him it became "Well, I was never good at it so I guess I never will be. I give up."

I was trying to think of a way to help students in this type of situation. I also wasn't referring to giving out daily grades, just grades in general.
  • A reply on Conversation: to grade people in high school on improvement vs. right or wrong

Jun 21 2012: I think I may have been a little unclear and didn't mean to say that ALL education should be done this way. I was more referring to primary education vs. post-high school. obviously, there needs to be a standard to achieve once a certain level of education is obtained.

i was thinking more along the lines of a way to provide the necessary self-confidence required to achieve certain levels of education.
  • A comment on Conversation: Discussion on common public speaking flaws, goofs and errors and suggestions on how to improve public speaking skills

Jun 15 2012: I will disagree slightly with some of my fellow TEDsters here. Substance does indeed trump style, however, without style impact will suffer. You have to build a certain amount of pizzaz or emotion into a good talk in order to pluck the string that you are trying to pluck. Let's not forget that every single talk on this site has a purpose, some of them huge, some small. Achieving that purpose, or, at least taking a few steps in the right direction, is every TED talker's goal. Without the elements of a good speaker you risk losing the impact you are trying to achieve regardless of the quality of your substance.

I speak quite often to executives, managers, non-profits, journalists, my team, etc. and I am careful that I do not lose the battle of balance, balance, balance.
  • A reply on Conversation: Calling all teachers! What do you need to teach your students effectively?

Mar 16 2012: I very much agree! Independent thought, creative expression, and the ability to think beyond a linear capacity are not taught in schools anymore.
  • A reply on Conversation: Calling all teachers! What do you need to teach your students effectively?

Mar 11 2012: I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of tools that can be accessed online to help supplement structured curriculum. Videos with lessons from content experts, free knowledge resources, what kind of info for these resources, a database for current trends in education, etc. Any specific insight into these types of things?

I'm working on an open source project and I'm trying to get some insight into some specifics.
  • A reply on Conversation: Calling all teachers! What do you need to teach your students effectively?

Mar 11 2012: Thanks for the reply! And I'm sorry that it came across in that way, I should have known that the audience that would be replying to this question would be smarter than the average... That was my bad. If you can't tell, this is my first question to add on TED.

So, outside of the administrative day-to-day, what kind of tools could be provided that could enhance a student's experience?
  • A comment on Conversation: Are you a conformist or a non conformist?

Mar 11 2012: I don't believe those words have any meaning. What is non-conformity other than conforming to an outlier already in the system? I spend a good deal of my time doing what people would normally expect, but when my boss asks me to come up with a new idea to solve a problem, am I a non-conformist? I don't think so.
