Ultimately, I identify myself as an artist. I choose this title because with each passing year I find that my goals and my sense of self have evolved and expanded beyond the lines I continually redraw in an effort to pinpoint who I have always been. I started as bass player, then composer, then musician, then band leader, then new media marketer, then writer, now I suppose...artist.
If this translates as vague, it's because I am young and taking my first steps toward showing the world who I am so that it may shout it back at me. Until then, I only know myself by my daily efforts. Today I will record a song, walk my dog, draw a sketch, pull the marketing levers at work, write some words and make a delicious sandwich to warm up my girlfriend during a wicked Boston snowstorm.
Music. I experience nothing else like the way I experience music. I feel the shapes, structures and ethereal implications of sounds. I have molded my entire life around being with music.
Earth is a single-celled organism with the explicit intention of becoming more aware of itself and its surroundings.
I believe that the purpose of humanity on Earth is to learn and to communicate ideas. Until now we have lacked the real capacity to bridge the gaps between peoples. We have done so online on the entitled side of the digital divide, but we would benefit from connecting the trivial experiences of day to day life from around the world. I would like to see media stations installed in public spaces that broadcast live feeds from one part of the world to another so that crowds can have the opportunity to interact with each other through voice/text translation or simple games.
We can create widen the reach of chance in shaping our personal destinies.
The result, I hope, would be a more unified culture and sense of camaraderie built upon real experiences rather than on ideas siphoned from the media.
