Mar 23 2011: Another way to classify people below the poverty line is to divide people who each provide energy for themselves from those who get energy from others. That observation reveals the political fact behind the uneven distribution of washing machines. Before you get a washing machine, you must get a supportive political system.
My country has a political system that enables the distribution of human effort for mutual benefit. For people who produce their own energy no political arrangement gives incentive to community development.
Without recent political change in China, more billions would still be producing their own energy. If only all the poor countries had the drive to militarize that has driven China to seek an improved economy.
May 7 2009: Thank you for this url. I have searched the claims in the past abd found no evidence supporting the claim that the brain will retrain to overcome deficits.
I think scientific claims must be replicable. Dr. Mezernich needs to get some independent corroboration. As it is, it seems to be only a sales pitch.
Jun 5 2008: I appreciate that genes are selected by the natural environment but are memes also selected by the natural environment ?
It would seem not as memes that ignore the natural world survive broadly in ideologies of politics and religion.
When genes are not selected they fade from existence but what happens when memes are not selected ? It seems they may only enter into the history books.
And how are temes selected for success ? And do they also reside in books when they disappear from the earth?
If memes are selected then it must be by the influence of other memes rather then by a natural process, I think. So one may learn to build a shelter as a yurt, a tent a stick house or a brick mansion. according to different memes. But which meme is followed for the construction relies other memes about skills, mortgages, locations, social standing, feng shui, etc.
I don't think memes can be wiped out.

A comment on Talk: Patricia Burchat: Shedding light on dark matter
Is quantum entanglement an artifact of embedding in dark matter?
Is dark matter the real primordial soup?
Lots of fun in the questions PB raises.
