Mar 9 2012: is it possible for the brain of a dog to understand literature? No, it isn't, no matter how hard you try to explain it to the dog. Maybe there are some things, like the true nature of the universe, which are incomprehensible by the physical limitations of the human brain.
Mar 7 2012: Perhaps this is a bit off topic, but we can also ask if it will ever be possible to create an artificial simulation of a human brain, without a body, but with connections which can simulate all human senses. We can then program to input all relevent sensual experiences into this brain, therby simulating for it a life experience. It seems to me to be theoretically possible, way way into the future, unless of course we are already living proof of it in action.
Mar 7 2012: I'm not sure if we can ever satisfacorily answer this question. Is consciousness really either a yes or no question, or is there a grey area of being partially conscious. I'm also thinking of the evolution of humans from less conscious ancestors.
