Jun 22 2012: If Male = Female, then we can no longer count the two as separates categories for calculating statistical representations, and we can no longer say that we must increase female representation - because increasing male representation is the same as increasing female, is the same as .... I argue, however, that males and females are NOT the same. We must strive for creating equal opportunities for both to succeed to his or her fullest potential, but recognize that even if the doors are open equally for both sexes, some opportunities will naturally be more highly represented by men, and others by females - and that this is OK. Women's equality should not be measured by 50/50 representation in all parts of life, but through the breakdown of sexist barriers blocking women's dreams, and the attainment of each woman knowing that opportunities are equally available, and that its okay to go whichever path she chooses.
