About Ewa

Bio

Ewa is interested in working on wicked problems, particularly those to do with food, cities and the environment. She believes that there is no limit to what can be achieved if you don't care who gets the credit and sometimes feels that the world is coming round to this idea. She’s also passionate about local democracy and is interested in how we can use technology to hold our local politicians to account.

A mechanical engineer by training, she's worked at Arup, the Design Council in London and as a freelance project manager for Community Action Network and London Business School in London, and a property developer and cheese importer in Poland.

My TED story

I came across TED in 2000 and was blown away by how accessible this amazing store of knowledge is. I was involved in organising the first TEDx in Krakow and am now the license holder. I'm looking forward to engaging a wide variety of Cracovians in creating subsequent editions.

If you could make a wish on behalf of The City 2.0, what would it be?
Hello Peter, thanks for replying! I too see pockets of food production happening - here in Krakow I grow vegetables and herbs on my balcony, we have a huge mulberry tree in my garden and the allotment system of small plots near the centre of cities that the communists instituted is still pretty popular but it's pretty patchy. I'm afraid that landscape designers (let alone planners) who think about edible design as an element of liveability, let alone a way of dealing with the food crisis, are pretty far and few between, so I guess my wish would be to find a way to open their eyes!

What a fantastic idea! I'll definitely take it to the TEDxKraków community and get them involved, but my own wish would be to find ways of integrating the production and preparation of food into the urban landscape in ways that please our wallets, eyes, health and wellbeing, and making this standard practice for planners and urban designers.
