Nov 27 2010: Is it offensive though? Sometimes he does take it a bit far, I've seen times when I get annoyed by it. But usually it does the trick of getting the crowds attention and getting them to loosen up.
Nov 27 2010: Greetings everyone. This is my first post, so I will try to keep it simple and humble, as I know there's tons of smart people around. Finding Ted online is seriously one of the most inspiring things I've seen, makes me proud of us humans!
I believe he is right about the part on actually getting work done. I've had translating contracts for a while, which includes a lot of actual work, quantifiable by pages, and it always works best when no one is around and I have long periods of time to work... Uninterrupted. I do this anywhere, at home mostly, but also on a train, plane, library... If everybody's work can be quantifiable then there's really no reason they couldn't do it from home, or from a different country for all it matters. There's some pretty cool theories about it in a book I'm sure some of you know called The 4 hour Workweek. With loads and deadlines managers wouldn't think they're not getting their money's worth from employees, and employees could enjoy greater freedom.
