writing, water issues, art in urban spaces, California, saving open landscape, tech innovation, learning, materials, installation art, reading, history and a sense of location...and integrity.
Make arts and creative writing a priority in schools, as a way to engage children in concepts first, details later. Walkable, vibrant, dynamic neighborhoods with people scaled, creative architecture, lots of parks and small retreats. Funding options for small, innovative business without selling our souls and futures. Trade schools to teach skills for life time career flexibility: not everyone needs a big education. Some children should be left behind: stop slowing education down for the slowest child. Consequences in schools for bad behavior. Revise the tort system in America, eliminate egregious lawsuits. Overhaul the banking system, and by the way, Congress.
As a culture, we've lowered expectations & standards in education, manners, integrity and attitudes about the honest hard work. We cheat and expect instant rewards, often in return for...what?
Rollerskating and reading Philosophy, but not at the same time.
I am a visual & cultural historian. I am a freelance contributor to the Op-ed section the Sacramento Bee with "California Sketches," a combination of my love of California, traveling, drawing and writing. I get to explore and learn about issues that interest me, especially water in California. I have been creating large-scale visual communication/ murals in the urban and architectural environment for over 30 years. With a reverence to the role of location, I do copious amounts of research for projects. My location and history based projects include Jack London, Amelia Earhart, murals at the San Francisco Hilton, and hundreds of projects all over the U.S. I have also created art for Disney's flagship properties in Orlando and Paris and am a licensed Disney artist. I maintained a consistent exhibition schedule until the crash in '08. I work in any media, from words to paint to cement, that best expresses what I need to say. I am curious and happiest when learning.
