Alex Kamotsky Posted 9 months ago Stephen Cave: The 4 stories we tell ourselves about death So the logic of this speech is: during evolution humans developed the notion that they will die *and* the fear of it. But, it seems that it's too much worry, let's just face it and ignore it. I find such proposition suspicious. If we developed this sense evolutionary, then there must have been a purpose to that sense. I think fear of death (and searching for afterlife) is a great motivator in our development, and we should embrace it instead of cultivating it out. Let's get those philosophers to work! And artists! And scientists! (ironically, it this fear of death has driven Stephen to give this nice talk too).
