A comment on Conversation: What is your definition of personal success?

Jun 26 2011: Success has different meanings for different people of different culture at different points of time.
To find a common denominator & define is an arduous task. Different people equate success differently. Some equate it with enhanced wealth, some with enhanced power/influence, some in accomplishing of goals,etc....the list can go on ,but to generalize it is accomplishment of the desire taking you to a higher level. It keeps on evolving/changing as your desires change and with changed priorities your definitions change.Look back and you will realize what success for you as a five year old was may not be of any relevance today...so we all are successful if we are happy and at peace with self.
It is said Failure is the stepping stone to success, and it right. It teaches us not what to do if we want to succeed.its a learning and at times, puts us back to the starting point but then it gives the opportunity to reflect and move ahead. We should not give too much importance to failure. It is only an event which leaves a bad taste, but we have the ability to respond the way we want to keep on thinking about the bad taste or move ahead and work for the future.
One cannot do anything to what has happened but can work for the future.
Having stated all I want to say that very few think success is conquering one self.....ability to be thoughtless and be a peace with one self away from the whirlpool of emotions, and being happy.
So let us enjoy and be happy !!!! Happiness brings success rather than success happiness.

Jun 25 2011: a beautiful thought, why only wedding ? we can turn every celebration into the "joy" of giving...
  • A comment on Talk: Anupam Mishra: The ancient ingenuity of water harvesting

Jun 25 2011: Amazing presentation!!! Its inspiring and informative.
We can go back to history to find a solution to the problem which threatens our existence- water scarcity.
It corroborates that we should not be dismissive of the tested old age practices and replace it with the new & modern in the disguise of development. It reflects on the myopic vision of the administration, not able to look at the effective solution to the problem which is already there but wasting time in exploring and planning for the transformation. At times, transformation decays....

A comment on Conversation: Our public vs our private persona

Jun 25 2011: "Social Editing", I liked the word and found it to be an interesting inference.
Its a fact that our public projections of self are edited and cultivated. This is how we have evolved over time. We lived in groups since time immemorial and the groups have evolved its code and if we choose to live in harmony we have to live by the values and principles of the group. We may be an individual but cannot gainsay the fact of interdependence and need of other people in our lives. We need them. Unedited versions of ourselves in public will disrupt our lives.
Not be yourself may be termed as hypocrisy or repression by some but it is called control by the others. The control is essential for relationships to be sustainable not creating avoidable friction. Many things unknown to us,owing to others' social editing make our lives simpler and leave us happier and confident to lead a happy life....Being too open will lead to a lot of friction and conflicts, think about the movie Jerry Mac quire, at work place for being honest and forthright, can be a reason for your exit Or Think of the Iraqi journalist throwing a shoe at George Bush at the press conference !!! What happened?
Be Happy and choose what you want to be .You have the choice. But be prepared to face the music.
Being Unedited is like a young liberal getting married to an old conservative....
  • A reply on Conversation: Another Groundshifting Opportunity - Can we make Education free?

    Jun 25 2011: Its a Noble Idea!!!!
I agree with Linda: the "poor" in developing countries do not have access to even the basic necessities of life, for them, computers and internet are nothing more than a fiction.Go to the interiors of rural world you will see the world so different than our "perceptions" and "maps" change. To educate the poor one has to go the field and work with the conventional methods before graduating to use of innovations in technology.
Presently, this idea is noble and great but ahead of its time.
Good luck with the idea, its ideas which transformed the world.
  • A comment on Conversation: Is the generation in education getting less intelligent than the ones before them or smarter?

Jun 25 2011: Education is certainly evolving, and the transformation is more pronounced in the last two decades than it has been before. I am from India and have witnessed a major change. In my school days in the early 1990s, computers had been only introduced with nobody really getting a chance to use it as a tool as they are being used today. We did not have the Google to search and enhance our information on a click of the button, we had to work hard to scout for information go the library, scout for the books and read to obtain information. This made us work hard, apply our mind, dedicate our precious resource-time, and work towards with focused approach to accomplish our goal with avoidable distractions of the internet and smart phones....but today the students may have the information, they are apparently "able" owing to the information but are not developing the "capabilities". It is the generation which may or may not be smarter but they are enjoying the benefits of the work of the preceding generation. It is only time which will tell that are we developing or regressing our abilities of thinking and application with the overdose of technology in our present education system. Lets not loose hope, because the present generation will always come out with the innovations which the previous generation never thought of. No one in 1855, thought that there will be an aircraft in reality it was only a fiction but it is a reality today so generations have evolved & no one before 2000 thought of a social networking making world smaller and getting people closer.
Let us enjoy without judgement, evolution is a fact and will always continue.

A comment on Conversation: Do you think China will be the next Superpower? Really?

Jun 25 2011: China will never be the Next superpower, it ALREADY IS.
  • A comment on Conversation: Why does the diffusion of innovation take so long?

Jun 24 2011: It not that it always takes time for innovation to diffuse. It depends upon number of factors, whether the innovation is monumental or incremental, how does it change the existing, how strong are the barriers .how much value the innovation will bring, its scalability, etc.....Take for example the innovations like Google, Facebook, etc they have not taken time to diffuse....
an idea when reaches the tipping point gathers the momentum and transforms....
