Sirena Huang: An 11-year-old's magical violin
Hi~ Great to talk to everyone again! Sam: The three pieces that I performed are called Ziguernerweisen ("Gypsy Airs") by Sarasate, Liebesleid (sorrowful love poem) by Kreisler, and Souvenir de' Amerique (Yankee Doodle) by Vieuxtemps. The piece was inspired by Vieuxtemps's trip to America. He often heard the tune 'Yankee Doodle' and when he returned to Europe, he improvised that song into a work for violin. I still can't believe that two years after TED, so many people are watching this and I get the chance to keep in touch with you...it's awesome! I've been really busy the past few months and I have lots of other things coming up this spring--I will keep you posted!

Sirena Huang: An 11-year-old's magical violin
Hello again! Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks so much for posting your comments--it's really really nice of everyone. Sara: Thank you SO much. I've always hoped that by playing violin I could say something to my audience and make them happy in some way because for me, that's the thing that matter most! Your words are a really big encouragement to me! Charles: I'm so glad that my music can be thought of as being a little bit of hope. The world is a really crazy and busy place to be sometimes, but if I can add something good to it, even for just a few people, it would mean a lot to me and I would be so happy. So thank you! thanks again to everyone here!!

Hello!! It's so nice to hear from all of you! It's actually really interesting for me to get to hear about your questions and what you think...but actually, music isn't a chore for me at all. I know that some people here are kind of worried about whether I can still have a normal life even with violin, but I still go to school every day, I have good friends at school and at Juilliard, and even though sometimes my schedule can get a little crazy with school and music it's definitely worth it! And even though some people might think violin has stopped me from having a great childhood in some way, I actually think it's the opposite. Because of violin, I've traveled to so many incredible places and met amazing people and friends I never would have met otherwise. I'm really lucky to be able to live a normal life with an awesome family and lots of friends and still be able to spend time doing what I love the most, which is playing the violin!
