Lesley Hazleton: On reading the Koran
Sad to think what else has been taken so far out of meaning amongst other "timeless" literary and religious works. Divine or not, literal translation of any work is unfortunately so geo-socio-political that we need to take things back to first principles more often and re-discover them all over again -- then re-apply them through the filter of the time period to make sense of their wisdom. I wonder... What did those first populations hearing the Koran think? Thank you for your efforts Lesley!

Mark Roth: Suspended animation is within our grasp
Any information out there on the neuropsychiatric and/or cardiovascular outcomes of deep hypothermia survivors (such as those stories mentioned by Roth)? It stands to reason that the greatest impact of this technology/medicine would be the most oxygen-metabolically active tissues (hence, neurons, myocytes, and the nerve plexi around structures such as the heart , organs, carotid, etc). Q: Anyone know of any clinical/syndromic features arising in these folks over the longer term? For example, would be neat to know how the child in diaper's grades and neuro development were over the ensuing years -- both from a cardiorespiratory perspective but also from psychological, sleep hygiene, mood, and cognitive/academic perspectives.

Should anyone be able to upload their TEDTalk to TED.com?
No (unfortunately)... I agree that there is much hidden genius in our world. Problem is there is "much" to sort through to find it and unconventional genius is not easy to detect. The subtle need not be at the mercy of a rating system; one that is idealised on conventions of mass appeal or bias based on the topic/idea (especially politically-charged ones, high media exposure, etc). Q: Would Einstein's early ideas on relativity been given appropriate visibility in a user-rated system??? Would a low-rating influence the passions of a hidden genius?
