A comment on Talk: Phil Plait: How to defend Earth from asteroids

Nov 22 2011: Am I the only one who didn't really like this talk? Getting to the point of the talk took too long, it a bit too much over view and not enough in depth info on this Ion drive method, which was the only real interesting point of the talk.

A comment on Talk: Yves Rossy: Fly with the Jetman

Nov 16 2011: I wouldn't call him reticient at all. He's not used to public speaking, but he's obviously passionate about his work and eager to share it. He's just not very extroverted, which is somethigng I'd have expected from someone who does something akin to wing suit flying.

    I found him admirable.

Apr 5 2011: Major excitement, chats with friends, hours in front of the computer learning lines, finding camcorders, practicing, practicing, take after take after take, charge camera, take after take, collapse, sleep. Dream the damned melodies, get up, take after take, SUCCESS! No, need another take, another take, SUCCESS!
Upload, feel proud, more chats with friends, go back to computer learn second line, practice, practice, borrow camcorder again, practice, practice, see deadline approach, feel stressed, take after take after take, SUCCESS!
Upload, feel DEAD proud and happy to be such a part of such an ephemeral, non corporeal yet perfectly tangible and open, welcoming community.
Chats with friends, look at third line, look at deadline, give up!
  • A reply on Talk: Eric Whitacre: A choir as big as the Internet

Jan 24 2011: Hi there Philip,
Just in response to your query about the conductor track. It's visible in the end result jsut to make the entire thing look complete, to have the choir singing what the conductor is comducting, but when we were practicing and recording it, it was essential to follow the conductor clip, to follow his interpretation of the piece. Otherwise it'd have no expression in it, no pulse, if we were just singing along with a midi track.

A reply on Talk: Eric Whitacre: A choir as big as the Internet

Apr 27 2010: It didn't take much time at all. You learn the line off, practice it a few times in front of the monitor with the conductor track playing, and film the result, and upload to youtube. Took me a week.
